The ninth floor

In an apartment above Fifth Avenue, some thirty young people live in a vortex of drug addiction and despair. In The Ninth Floor, Jessica Dimmock enters this world, exploring, in human terms, what has been lost and what may be recovered. See the project at http://mediastorm.com/publication/the-ninth-floor

I watched a very compelling film called, "The Ninth Floor."  The music in the video was ominous and sad.   It made the video more dramatic and sad and it made you really get a better understanding for the situation the different people were in.   The images that were in the video were pictures of needles and the reaction after the people got their high.  It is basically putting you in their shoes on how getting there drugs made them feel.  The interviews in the film showed how the users thought their drug use for beneficial.  We learn that they do it because it gives them a feeling of no worries and there's nothing that bothers them when they get there fix.  The overall message of the video was to show that its a life of sadness and weakness but its who they are and they can't change who they are.  They know what mistakes they made and their willing to lay in the bed they made and not put the blame on anyone but themselves.

It was a very sad story of multiple people living in New York with an addiction to methadone.  The video goes through the hardships of having addiction and how it feels to have no control over it because its fuel for them to survive, they count on methadone to function in life.  Towards the end they show how a couple that suffered from methadone wanted to make a change for their baby, they knew this wasn't the life they wanted for their child they wanted to give their daughter a chance at a normal existence.

The films camera angles really made the film really strong and made it powerful. The way the people were shown in their interviews really made the film a really strong piece.  Therefore the viewer was able to really understand the film in a better way making it a great film. With my film I hope to catch the interviews from good angles so the viewer could get into the mindset of what we are trying to accomplish, and see our film in a good light.
