Old Lower East Side

The Lower East Side is one of the most iconic place in all of New York. It was home to all incoming immigrants, it was the birth place of small business to run a community.  Due to gentrification many small businesses have had to shut down due to bigger business kicking them out to replace them with expensive condos and restaurants etc.

I'm personally interested in this topic because i live in a poverty stricken are and I see the changes going on all around the neighborhood. I see the little shops that used to go to being torn out and removed to build a bank or some expensive condo that I will never ever be able to afford. I believe certain changes are whats needed for the neighborhood to be better but feel the small business are the heart of the lower east side by just getting rid of it I feel the history is trying to be over written.

Some questions I have are 1. Do the changes to the LES necessary? and Where is the history going to go once its gone?

Cinematography Workshop

Working with Ariana, I learned in order to make a good film its all about camera angles. The way the camera zooms in or looks at something can really make or break a film. We looked at film and the way the director decided to shot the interview really made a difference, you could get a better understanding about him just by the way the camera shot him. With this information I learned from Ariana I plan to set up my interviews in similar fashion so I can have a powerful movie.
This was a video I made with kwan at my imovie workshop. The session went well and easy,  I thought it was going to be hard to make a video and modify it and add different features but it was easy and i enjoyed it. I cant wait to take what I learned and apply it to the film project me and my group are working on, the video should be very interesting.

poem " Me "

When you look at me  I only show you What I want you to see  You will never know the real me because if you did you'd never be able to get your mind around it  for my mind and soul is a puzzle but only I have the pieces  But if you stick around for awhile you might live to see the final picture.

Gios Bio

My name is Giovanni Vazquez. I'm 17 years old and a senior at New Design High School, Which is located by my home in the Lower East Side. All my life I have never gone to school farther then 3 blocks from my home which is always good for me. My future dreams that i have for myself is to be involved in law enforcement and go to the college of my dreams , which is John Jay for Criminal Justice. New design has helped me a lot on finding out what I want to do and basically just help me find out who I am and where I'm going to go.

Review for To Be Heard

To Be Heard, a film by Roland Legiardi, centered around multiple teens in a poetry group in the New York City in the Bronx. The film was really inspirational and it hit home for me.  It made me think that anyone can make a good poem.  Not all poems have to rhyme and all they need is a little bit of feeling to make it a powerful piece of writing.  It is a shame to see how society condemns teens to the point where the only the way they can express themselves is through their poems but in a way its good because it makes their emotions real and it makes their writing amazing. Its centered around 3 characters Anthony Pittman, as he was in the program he had sex with an under aged girl and was sentenced to 2 years in jail. When he was released he continued writing and won a poetry slam competition. Karina Sanchez, was another student involved in the program she had a rough upbringing in her home which influenced her writing and many ways and after the programs she has now begun to teach the class occasionally. Finally Pear Quick was a student in the program she had a a fear that she couldn't go to the college of her drams because of her financial situation and with this program ended up going to the college of her dreams on a full scholarship.
